Alvis/Haggelunds Bv206

Alvis FV 624 Stalwart REME

Alvis FV 623 Stalwart Limber

Alvis/Haggelunds Bv206 Haggelund's Bv206 all-terrain vehicle was developed for arctic use with the Swedish Army, but is now widely deployed with NATO nations in several variants, including COBRA, Satcoms and Air Defence. The UK's Royal Marines have used the BV206 and its predecessors for many years in their arctic warfare role.  They also deployed their BVs to Afghanistan in 2003, where this snow vehicle adapted well to operation in rough mountainous/desert conditions.  As it lacks any armour protection, a larger armoured and armed version, known as the Viking in UK service, was introduced with some success This is a B.W. Models 1/76 white metal kit.

Alvis FV 624 Stalwart (REME)

The Stalwart, or ~”Stolly” high mobility carrier entered British Army service in the mid 1960s, using similar mechanical components to the Saracen and Saladin.  Fully amphibious, with steerable Dowty waterjets fitted at the rear, it was used in several roles, including as a general logistics transport, plus as a mobile REME warkshop and an artillery limber.    A HIAB crane fitted on the load deck increased its autonomy. As well as a 5 ton carrying capacity and creditable performance in the water, the Stalwart had a remarkable off-road ability, although its rather crude transmission was prone to excessive wear and breakdown when it was used on-road. Stalwarts gave excellent service, but were finally withdrawn from service in the early 1980s, not least because of their thirsty petrol fuelled engines. This is the B.W. Models white metal 1/72 kit.

Alvis FV 623 Stalwart (Artillery Limber)

The artillery limber Stalwart was very simimlar to the REME variant.  These vehicles would be used to transfer ammunition from rear support areas to Abbot SPGs just behind the front line. This is the ACE injection moulded 1/72 kit. Return to Support Vehicles page Return to British Cold War page Return to Dark Side AFVs index page Return to Gengriz Modelling Index Page
